As I write this first post I am so excited to think that a little bubble of a dream is starting to come true. I have always loved to write but being left handed it has often been very tricky for me. At school we had to use fountain pens and I watched sadly as I smudged all my work, in the end I developed a very funny style of writing commonly known as over-writing. During my ‘A’ Levels after three hours of intensive writing my hand would ache furiously.
I have always been a ‘doodler’ I love to ‘doodle’ when on the phone, listening to the TV or during classes when I was younger. I have been involved in many creative pastimes and love the feeling of texture and the simplicity of a pen a paper.
I started playing around with modern calligraphy one night when looking for ways to relax and de-stress, I came across a wonderful website: The Postman’s Knock, even though it was very late I grabbed a pen and followed the faux calligraphy tutorial and was delighted with the results. No smudges, just a lovely written piece of text. From that point on I was hooked! I worked my way through many of the worksheets on the website and then decided to purchase a nib, pen and ink. I didn’t know if I would be able to create the same effect considering my funny hooked way of writing but after a bit of tweaking with arm positions I managed to get writing – a little wobbly at first but I was so delighted with the results.
Fast forward until today when I feel confident enough to offer my services as a calligrapher, and chalk lettering designer – something that I have also recently discovered and is so much fun!
Please enjoy browsing my website and if you have a project you would like me to be a part of, I would be delighted for you to get in touch.
